Todd was born in Ireland and began his career at the age of four in London. He made his stage debut at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane, where he played the title role in Lionel!, the musical based on Lionel Bart’s life. On television, he appeared in Z Cars, Our Mutual Friend, Drummer and Headmaster (all with BBC); Focus on Britain (German TV); The Idle Bunch (German TV) and We’re Happy (RTE). His early film work included Professor Popper’s Problems, Please Sir!, The Gang’s OK and The Magic Trip.

 

Todd’s first major television role was Tucker in BBC Television’s Grange Hill, a role he played for five years, which proved so popular that he was then offered his own series playing Tucker as an adult in Tucker’s Luck.

Todd’s first major television role was Tucker in BBC Television’s Grange Hill, a role he played for five years, which proved so popular that he was then offered his own series playing Tucker as an adult in Tucker’s Luck. Todd then co-starred with Nick Berry in The Black Velvet Band, the adventure film drama for Yorkshire Television. However, Todd is best known for his role of Mark Fowler in the BBC’s award-winning flagship drama series EastEnders, a role he played for 12 years. Todd went on to play the regular role of PC Gabriel Kent/David Kent in ITV’s drama The Bill; Ray Hallam in the Christmas special of Heartbeat; Cameron Cook in the BBC’s Casualty; filmed his role of Todd Carty in A Touch of Cloth for Sky One; and made an unforgettable appearance on ITV’s prime-time entertainment show Dancing on Ice, later going on to appear in the UK tour of the show.

 

Todd has directed several episodes of Doctors for the BBC and also directed the film The Perfect Burger for the British Youth Film Academy.

 

Recent theatre includes the role of Detective Inspector Hallet in the UK tour of A Business of Murder and he played the role of Patsy to great acclaim in the UK tour and in the West End production of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

 

Film work includes the science-fantasy film Krull, directed by Peter Yates, where he played the role of Oswin. He has also turned his hand to comic roles in films including What’s in It for You?, A Question of Balance, Serve Them Right and The Candy Show, a comedy fantasy film, where he played the role of Randy Candy. Todd has recently appeared in the role of Mike in the feature film “Birches”. Based on the Adrian Plass novel “Silver Birches” and his latest screen role was playing Dan in the award winning film “The Drive”.

 

Radio credits include Les Misérables, The Threee Loves of Ida Bliss, Wavelength, Midweek, Harry Hill’s Fruit Corner and London Particulars (all BBC) and Jellybones (Capital).

 

Todd has voiced many popular commercials, and has been the narrator on numerous television programmes, such as Scene in New York, The Jungle Creatures and Streets Apart (BBC One); The Fame Game (BBC Scotland); Driving Mum Crazy (Meridian) and Snapshot – Eddie Kidd and Paddington Green (both BBC.)
